Summer Work Trip to Western North Carolina

Hey all!

I’m excited to announce that this year’s work trip (aka mission trip) will go to Western North Carolina to focus on Hurricane Helene relief. We’ll be going again with the organization that we used for Pikeville, KY, Experience Mission.

Experience Mission provides opportunities to work in the community on projects that need many hands. We’ll be focused on building projects, which may include foundations, drywalling, flooring, painting, etc. This year I’d like to expand the trip to include high school students, college-aged students, and any adults that would like to come.

The cost will be $500 per participant; scholarships are available; don’t hesitate to ask.

I’m looking at either the week of June 1-7 or June 8-14. Please send an email to Kristin to confirm your interest and tell me which date is better for you!!!

Thank you,
Kristin Ream

Confirmation 2025

Confirmation this year will begin in January 2025. This year we’re partnering with Second Presbyterian in Newark to do confirmation. Because of this, I’ve extended confirmation to include 8th graders as well. There is NO obligation to do this now, but everyone is invited.

We’ll begin meeting in January, and we’ll meet once a month for 2 hours after church from January through April. We’ll have an overnight retreat at Kirkmont on Friday, March 7, returning home on Saturday, March 8th. Our church plans to do confirmation Sunday on May 4 (this is pending the new pastor’s approval!)

I’m attaching the schedule. PLEASE LET ME KNOW ASAP if your teen is going to join us! I need to begin work on pairing them with a confirmation companion (mentor!).

Any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Warmly,

Kristin Ream

Trivia Night Thank You

On behalf of the Mission Committee and the Senior High Youth we would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to all those who helped make our first trivia night a HUGE success.

We’re especially grateful to Peggy and Verne Qualls (game creators/emcee extraordinaire), Amanda Love and April Crum (The A-Team, for silent auction items and set up!), the incredibly generous donors from church and around the community, and all of you who came to play!

We’re STILL totaling up the exact amount raised, but we’re north of 8k, and we’re so beyond grateful. Thank you for supporting Senior High Youth and the Licking County Food Pantry Network!

We need YOU for Trivia Night!

Hey parents! Trivia night is coming! AUGUST 17!!!

Here’s the deal- I’m trying real hard to make this the main fundraiser for senior high youth going forward, and we REALLY REALLY need your help to make it a success! The more we raise at trivia night, the less you pay for summer mission trips!

Here’s the main ask- I’d love you to PLAY trivia. Get some friends together and come for a fun night. $15 a head, or $150 to preselect your WHOLE TEAM of 8.  We’ve sold a few tables, but we need to sell a whole lot more. Can I count on you? Even if trivia isn’t your thing, we’ve got a whole lot of fun twists to make the game engaging for all. Email me or call me and I’ll get you signed up! Maybe we can get a senior high parent table?

We’ll also have a silent auction during the event. We’ve got some great items already, but if you’ve got something awesome to donate, I’d LOVE to know about it. If you don’t have something to donate, come bid! There are AWESOME and unique things!  Check out the silent auction item teaser here!

This event is designed to cut the costs for the youth summer experiences, so let’s show up and have fun together!

Warmly,
Kristin

Montreat reflection

We had the absolute best week! Thank you so much for supporting us and praying for our time away. We learned a lot about planting and persisting in peace.

The atmosphere at a youth conference is truly unmatched, and it is so inspiring to be in a room with 600+ young people who have a shared faith. Our group went with Newark Second Presbyterian and we LOVED getting to know their group and sharing the week with them. It was the beginning of a beautiful friendship between the two groups!

We have approximately one billion photos, but here is a quick video so you can see just how much fun we had! A note on the song in the background of the video: We sang the song Crowded Table by the Highwomen in worship quite a few times. About halfway through the week we realized that the words were describing the very eclectic home that we stayed in.

“You can hold my hand
When you need to let go
I can be your mountain
When you're feeling valley-low
I can be your streetlight
Showing you the way home
You can hold my hand
When you need to let go

I want a house with a crowded table
And a place by the fire for everyone
Let us take on the world while we're young and able
And bring us back together when the day is done

If we want a garden
We're gonna have to sow the seed
Plant a little happiness
Let the roots run deep
If it's love that we give
Then it's love that we reap
If we want a garden
We're gonna have to sow the seed

Yeah I want a house with a crowded table
And a place by the fire for everyone
Let us take on the world while we're young and able
And bring us back together when the day is done

The door is always open
Your picture's on my wall
Everyone's a little broken
And everyone belongs
Yeah, everyone belongs

I want a house with a crowded table
And a place by the fire for everyone
Let us take on the world while we're young and able
And bring us back together when the day is done
And bring us back together when the day is done”

We truly loved our crowded table, and we hope you’ll see the love in the video below.

Please join us on May 19 for one of our favorite traditions, blessing the high school seniors. The Angel Choir will be singing for the last time this program year, and we'll honor the seniors from The Angel Choir and our congregation following their anthem.
