The sanctuary at First Presbyterian Church of Granville
What to Expect
At FPC, We are followers of Jesus who are approachable, down-to-earth, family-friendly, and genuine in who we are. Together, as a community, we strive to learn God’s calling in our worship, fellowship, and service so that our lives outside of this building can grow deeper in, and closer to, Christ. Our Sunday worship service is at 10a.m. and is traditional in style. The principal elements of our service include: prayer, singing, reading and preaching the Bible, the sacraments (baptism and the Lord’s Supper), and the giving of offerings.
From the moment you step through the doors at First Presbyterian Church, we want you to Feel WelcomE.
Sunday mornings begin with a call to worship and a passing of the peace, which build into a reflective time of confession and pardon. To hear how God speaks into our lives, we turn to his word through the sermon. During the service, there will be a times of corporate prayer, an offering, and special music.
We end our services with a response of praise and by receiving again God's good blessings for his people. You are invited to join us for a time of fellowship with coffee and refreshments after the service. We also have faith formation opportunities for all ages following the service.
What about kids?
First Presbyterian Church of Granville has a long history of wonderful children’s programming. Each Sunday, your child will learn the Bible and how it relates to Jesus in an age-appropriate way. The lessons are fun and approachable and taught by committed volunteers and staff who serve Jesus by serving you and your kids.
During our Sunday service we provide classrooms and a nursery to children from ages birth through third grade. Parents may check into the nursery with their children (birth through pre-school age) before the service. School age children (kindergarten through third) will attend the beginning of the church service, and will be dismissed to The Rest of the Story (our children’s church) after our Word for Children in the service.
If you would rather keep your kids with you for the service, you are more than welcome to do so.
Following the service, we have a faith formation hour, for ALL ages. There are classrooms for Nursery,K-8, and several adult faith formation opportunities. We would love to have you join us!
General FAQs
Where do I park?
There is a parking lot for First Presbyterian Church at the rear of the church, off of Main Street. There are a few street parking spaces on Main and Broadway, or you are welcome to find parking in the surrounding area.
Where do I go?
The sanctuary is located upstairs at the Broadway Street entrance. There is an elevator on the main floor, near the office at the Main Street entrance.
The Nursery is located on the second floor.
What should I wear?
Our worship services are pretty casual. Some people dress up a bit, while many others simply wear jeans and a t-shirt. Our belief is that God cares much more about the condition of our hearts than our external appearance. If you join us for a service, please feel free to dress however you feel comfortable.

FAQ for Parents
When does nursery/child care start and end?
The nursery/child care opens at 9:45 AM on Sunday mornings, 15 minutes prior to the beginning of the worship service. Parents are asked to pick-up the children within 10 minutes of the end of worship service, or faith formation hour. On Sunday mornings, the nursery/childcare ends at 12:15. For other events where nursery/child care is provided, the nursery/child care will follow a similar pattern.
How does the sign-in and sign-out system work?
In brief, when a parent drops a child off to the nursery, they will sign a roster, and include their phone number and who will be picking up the child.
Will my child be given a snack?
Due to the increase in food allergies dietary restrictions for children, strict adherence to snack guidelines are necessary to ensure the safety of all children. At this time, children are given Goldfish. They are also provided water. Parents should communicate all special considerations for their children, especially allergies. Snack is not provided for The Rest of the Story (grades K-3).
What if my child has allergies or other special needs?
The nursery/child care staff will make every effort to accommodate the needs of children so long as they are able to provide a safe environment. Parents should communicate all special considerations for their children.
What if my child gets hurt or is unconsolable?
If a child is noticeably ill or injured, the parent (or responsible party) will be contacted immediately. If ill, the child will be separated from the other children until the parent arrives to remove the child from the nursery/child care. First Presbyterian Church childcare staff/volunteers are not authorized to administer medication of any kind. If a child is inconsolable (15 minutes of nonstop crying) the parent will be contacted. If a child is disruptive (e.g. hurting other children or unresponsive to caregiver redirection), the parent of the child will be contacted.
How many caregivers are in the nursery? How are they qualified?
No less than 2 workers are always present in the nursery/child care. All caregivers are 18 years of age or older, have received a background check, and have been approved by First Presbyterian Church leadership.
